Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

This is: Round The World 2006-07

New York, New York

So good, I visited it twice! Although I hoped to make the most of this trip's second visit to The Big Apple, I had another long lie, at least by my standards. Eventually I found myself aboard the hotel's shuttle, where I met up with a friendly Londoner. We found our way via the Airtrain onto a New York Subway E train bound for Manhattan and had a good chat until it was time to go our separate ways. Good to meet you, Howard, and all the best with your travels   I got off at 42nd Street and walked the few blocks to the Intrepid, an attraction that I hadn't previously visited. It turned out to be a case of 'just in time' as it was due to be towed to dry dock the following month for maintenance. Having already seen a Concorde at Seattle, it seemed quite strange to be running into Alpha Delta here in New York City. I don't think I've ever been on such an aviation-themed trip before!

Next on the agenda was a 3hr Circle Line cruise round Manhattan, leaving from ... oh, about 100yds away! I hadn't done this since my first-ever long-haul trip in 1985.

Before heading back to the hotel, I wanted to spend a little while walking and experiencing the feel of the streets in this most vibrant of cities.

I finally made it back to the Crowne Plaza JFK, where I had dinner and got organised for my departure the following morning.
