Conrad, Hong Kong

This was one that I was able to bring to the party: a stunning cash + points deal, combined with my benefits as a Hilton HHonors Diamond member, meant that we were able to live a life of luxury at this very upscale property for astonishingly little monetary outlay. (This was a classic example of the maxim that loyalty scheme points should be earned cheaply and spent in a way that extracts optimum value.)

The hotel is situated in the Admiralty area of Hong Kong Island, as part of the upmarket Pacific Place shopping complex. It is conveniently located for easy access to Hong Kong's plethora of public transport options, so that few places in the Special Administrative Region are awkward to visit.

Our 54th-floor room certainly wasn't large - very few hotel rooms in Hong Kong are - but it was beautifully furnished and, despite the hazy conditions, offered jaw-dropping views.

We were given access to the Executive Lounge. Although very different from the one in Singapore that I had experienced earlier in 2012, this lounge was also an excellent example. Upon arrival for each visit, we were seated by formally dressed waiters in morning suits, who also prepared drinks. An impressive buffet was presented both for breakfast and for cocktail hour.

Highly recommended!
