November 2005 : InterContinental Köln

For my final 'RA experience' of 2005, I was allocated Senior Suite 302 at the Hotel InterContinental Köln. The hotel is situated just off the Heumarkt and is therefore very handy for the Old Town and within reasonable walking distance of the cathedral. The suite consisted of a lounge (with its own toilet / washroom), an oddly combined bedroom / work area and a medium-sized bathroom, with separate bath and shower. The bedroom could be closed off from the lounge at night by means of a sliding door. The style and decor were decidedly modern, almost to the point of dicing with quirkiness in a few of the details. Comfortable, certainly, but probably not entirely to my taste - although I think that had as much to do with the colour scheme as anything else. Access to the Club on the 7th floor was included in my rate on this occasion, but I was left with a strong suspicion that it is never granted on the grounds of status alone. To sum up : a perfectly enjoyable stay, but not my 2005 highlight.
