Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

October 2007 : Trogir

Some 30km from Split lies yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site : the town of Trogir. The historic centre is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the much more substantial island of Ciovo. The central area is superbly preserved and somehow feels more comfortable than that of Split - it is a much smaller town, after all - and in many ways reminded me more of Dubrovnik. The historic district is another maze of lanes and alleyways and the surrounding water channels make for some attractive views - providing you don't catch sight of the town's main industrial site, its shipyard. Shortly after my arrival on a day trip from Split, the skies cleared and the sun came out, all of which meant I was seeing the town at its best.
