August 2008 : Oxford, Blenheim Palace & Woodstock

Oxford

This visit to Oxford was inspired by the Inspector Morse detective novels and the well-known TV series, which I now have in its entirety on DVD   There are many reasons why I think it's one of the best series ever made, but one must surely be the wonderful Oxford settings and backdrops to the stories. Having seen so much on the TV screen, I simply had to go and experience the city for myself. Unfortunately, my visit took place during some of the poorest summer weather imaginable. As with Brugge in March, however, I managed to keep myself occupied in spite of the nasty conditions, as I hope my pictures will show.

Blenheim Palace

Oxford is also the idea base for a visit to the magnificent Blenheim Palace, which has enjoyed World Heritage Site status since 1987.

Woodstock

Neighbouring Woodstock is an attractive Cotswolds village that still evokes much of the traditional charm of rural England.
