This short visit to the small Wiltshire village of Lacock (pronounced lay-cock) tidied up a piece of unfinished business from my Cotswolds tour of 2015, during which I learned of Lacock's existence. Located just three miles from Chippenham, this beautifully preserved village is mostly owned by the National Trust and is regularly used as a setting for period dramas on both film and television.
Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the former Lacock Abbey became a country house which was later owned by William Henry Fox Talbot, one of the 19th-century pioneers of photography.
