Oct 2017: Saint-Émilion

Saint-Émilion is a small medieval town and UNESCO World Heritage Site, lying approximately 35km east-northeast of Bordeaux. Its attractive hilltop location gives good views across the Dordogne Valley, while the town itself features narrow streets and well preserved old buildings. Aside from tourism, the main economic activity of both the town and the surrounding countryside is, not surprisingly, wine production.

This visit to Saint-Émilion was made as an excursion from Bordeaux by train.
